Nothing Like Prezzybox

Tuesday, August 4th, 2009

We have the utmost respect for Prezzybox.

Zak has done a fantastic job of establishing Prezzybox as affiliates’ gift retailer of choice. He’s virtually a legend in the industry. Prezzybox and Zak are mentioned in the affiliate marketing community too frequently not to become just a little irritating for us!

In affiliate marketing, Prezzybox have a 5 year head start on us. We’re the upstarts. Indeed, pressies4princesses used to be a Prezzybox affiliate. We probably still have some links up somewhere!

Yep, unfortunately for us, Prezzybox is virtually synonymous with “gift” affiliate programmes. It seems the default.

But, while I as bigger fan of “the Box” as the next man (I have shopped there!), our businesses are very, very different. Yes, I hear you groan: they’ve got a successful affiliate programme!

Unfavourable comparisons aside, what I am trying to tell you is how different our product ranges and demographic really are. Literally chalk and cheese. Consider this: last Christmas a handbag featured in our top 15 gifts!

The first thing to note is that pressies4princesses only sells gifts for women. And, all our gifts are picked by women for women (men just don’t understand women, apparently?!). This has the effect of making us incredibly popular with young women buying for female friends, mum, big sister, gran, mother-in-law, aunts, cousins – you name it, the list goes on.

That’s a big deal. Once hitched, most blokes buy for one person: their significant other and generally four times a year (birthday, anniversary, Valentines, Christmas). It’s the fairer sex who buy for everyone else – including HIS mum!

Men spend more per basket, less frequently. Women spend less per basket, but more often. Pressies4princess success is in catering for both; our split is about 60:40 female to male (remember the girls order more often!).

Our range reflects our male and female appeal. Remember the best-selling handbag? Right now, another is rapidly rising up our best-sellers list!

And, it’s not just handbags. Luxurious alpaca wraps and accessories, exclusive handmade jewellery and an enormous bath and body selection all power our growth.

That’s why pressies4princesses is a great complement to Prezzybox, not an alternative. Promoting us alongside them is only going to help increase your conversions. You’ll be covering more of the bases.

OK, so that’s what we think. But, what do you think? Is there something you dislike about pressies4princesses or our affiliate programme? What’s stopping you promoting us? Any feedback or demands greatly received! I hope to hear from you….

Handbags Launch On Back Of Survey

Monday, May 18th, 2009

We’re currently running a post-purchase survey on the store. It’s telling us that our buyers are mainly female, aged 22-40 years, buying a gift for a female friend, also aged 22-40 years.

Now, women are understably more confident in buying fashion items as gifts. So, on the back of this survey, we’ve increased the already popular handbag range on the store. We’ve added 7 new affordable fashion bags for summer.

The new bags were uploaded 5:30pm Friday – a very quiet sales period for obvious reasons. But, despite the low volume of sales, within an hour the new range had already bagged (ho ho!) its first sale. That’s fast!

The first bag to sell: Clarice art nouveau shoulder bag, £18.99

We’ve known for a while that we have a strong appeal to young female buyers and that this is where our volume base is. If you’ve got us pigeon wholed as “this is where blokes can buy their girlfriend a gift”, it’s time to think again. You could be missing out on the much bigger opportunity!

Social media integrated into gift catalogue

Friday, January 30th, 2009

At pressies4princesses, we’re playing catch-up on social media. We thought it about time pressies4princesses was dragged into the “Web 2.0″ world. As a start, we’ve added Facebook, MySpace, Stumbleupon, Delicious and TwitThis buttons to the store.

These buttons make posting our gifts to MySpace or Facebook easy. Likewise, the addition of the Stumbleupon “Stumble this” button.

For visitors with bookmarks stored on Delicious, adding one of our products comes at a click. Similarly, Twittering (or is that tweeting?) about is is now all too easy courtesy of “TwitThis”.

Click this button on the page to access the menu of individual services/ actions available

The magic 'Share It' /Social Media button

Here’s an example product details page from the store, which has the button on it: Example product page – check the button under the main image

We think this is a positive step for affiliates for three reasons:

1) It encourages bookmark and return behaviour (within the cookie period)

2) It makes pressies4princesses more sticky which encourages your visitors to return

3) being able to share/discuss encourages conversion

We anticipate this being the start of bigger things on the web 2.0 front.

What kind of gift retailer do you represent?

Tuesday, December 30th, 2008

Well, if you represent pressies4princesses, one that’s established, makes customers happy and is in it for the duration.

Anyone can buy some stock, throw up an OS Commerce website and sign-up with an affiliate network to immediately start driving traffic to their (empty) store. It’s too easy. But, that isn’t all there is to building a successful retail business.

There’s plenty of horror stories and hate online about fly-by-night gift and gadget retailers. Typically, they launch with a lot of noise, a slick website and go straight for affiliate marketing as a shortcut to market share. They stick around for a year to 18 months before going bust or being sold and merged into more established businesses. But, sadly, often not before leaving a swathe of dissatisfied customers smarting in forums.

Pressies4princesses is new to affiliate marketing, so you’d be forgiven for thinking that we are just another of these sorry tales in the making. You may not have heard of us before. I mean, we’ve got pretty good search engine rankings, but we can’t be everywhere – that’s where you come in! You might be wondering what sort of outfit we are; whether it’s worth inflicting us on your users/ visitors?

Well, first off, we’ve been trading for over 3 years. And, have been online for over 6. We are pure play internet, with no shops or catalogue to steal your conversions. Best of all, we are profitable – at least have been every year since start-up – and responsible and reputable.

Net Alternative, the partnership that trades as pressies4princesses, is a member of the Giftware Association. The GA/ Giftware Association is the trade association for the UK gift and home industry and has been supporting and promoting this sector of the British economy for over 60 years.

Online security is a top priority for shoppers and serious businesses take their concerns seriously and do their utmost to reassure and protect. That’s why we use 3 year Verisign Certificates for pressies4princesses, not the cheaper and lesser brands. Verisign is the most trusted and recognised SSL certificate provider.

SSL Certificates are essential, but they don’t protect users from human errors in design and coding. That’s why we also subscribe to and are tested daily by McAfee SECURE . McAfee SECURE web sites have passed a set of daily security scans that helps address security concerns like hackers stealing confidential information. McAfee SECURE shops are safe shopping destinations.

Security aside, shoppers want to know they are dealing with a reputable store that’s going to treat them fairly. That’s why pressies4princesses is also a SafeBuy registered and assured retailer. The SafeBuy Consumer Code of Practice has successfully completed the first stage of the OFT’s Consumer Codes Approval Scheme.

So, you see, we are not chancers who just dropped in (for a while) to lose some money. We think we have a great little gift business that’s getting better all the time, because we keep pushing change. But, the best way to find out, is to start promoting pressies4princesses as your main retailer of gifts for women today!
