New Web2.0 for Conversion’s Sake

We added new web2.0 functionality to the web store today. “Most Recently Viewed” keeps track of the gifts that each visitor has looked at in detail. By that we mean they must have looked at the detail page for the gift (ie clicked through for more info/ bigger pics).

The list of “Recently Viewed” appears far right, outside of the main page and (conveniently!) right next to the shopping basket. It’s a rolling list of 5 of the most recently visited items. The records persist beyond the session such that a returning visitor is greeted with stuff they were looking within last 7 days.

For visitors the benefits are:

1) Effortless route back to products that picqued there interest

2) Easy comparison between those items

3) Automatic – no need to click to remember something

4) Reminder of great stuff they’ve seen before – ideal for split/ unfinished shopping sessions

For affiliates the anticipated benefit is higher conversions. Why?

1) Visitors have a running visual prompt of gifts that have picqued their interest

2) Split sessions restart with a ready reminder of what visitors were looking at previously

3) Their own ‘hot list’ is right next to the shopping basket, tempting additional spend

It was only launched today, so no stats to prove as yet, but this is where we are coming from with this change. Will add data when available.

Handbags Launch On Back Of Survey

We’re currently running a post-purchase survey on the store. It’s telling us that our buyers are mainly female, aged 22-40 years, buying a gift for a female friend, also aged 22-40 years.

Now, women are understably more confident in buying fashion items as gifts. So, on the back of this survey, we’ve increased the already popular handbag range on the store. We’ve added 7 new affordable fashion bags for summer.

The new bags were uploaded 5:30pm Friday – a very quiet sales period for obvious reasons. But, despite the low volume of sales, within an hour the new range had already bagged (ho ho!) its first sale. That’s fast!

The first bag to sell: Clarice art nouveau shoulder bag, £18.99

We’ve known for a while that we have a strong appeal to young female buyers and that this is where our volume base is. If you’ve got us pigeon wholed as “this is where blokes can buy their girlfriend a gift”, it’s time to think again. You could be missing out on the much bigger opportunity!

Mini Sale On Handmade Jewellery

We’re offering big reductions on ten great pieces of British handmade jewellery. Every piece is individually handmade in the UK by the designer.

£50 Off this handmade Obisidian and Silver Bracelet by Claire Wood

This is a genuine sale. These pieces have been sold on the store for 12 months-plus and are solid sellers (though obviously not volume).

Comparatively high value makes them great opportunities for a meaningful chunk of commission.

Plus, because most CANNOT be bought elsewhere (and certainly not on the high street), your referrals pretty much have to convert on pressies4princesses.

So, something different to offer your visitors. This jewellery stands apart from mass-produced fare. Plus there’s real value for them in the price reductions and plenty of commission for you.

Currently featuring in pressies4princesses gift offers section.

Social media integrated into gift catalogue

At pressies4princesses, we’re playing catch-up on social media. We thought it about time pressies4princesses was dragged into the “Web 2.0″ world. As a start, we’ve added Facebook, MySpace, Stumbleupon, Delicious and TwitThis buttons to the store.

These buttons make posting our gifts to MySpace or Facebook easy. Likewise, the addition of the Stumbleupon “Stumble this” button.

For visitors with bookmarks stored on Delicious, adding one of our products comes at a click. Similarly, Twittering (or is that tweeting?) about is is now all too easy courtesy of “TwitThis”.

Click this button on the page to access the menu of individual services/ actions available

The magic 'Share It' /Social Media button

Here’s an example product details page from the store, which has the button on it: Example product page – check the button under the main image

We think this is a positive step for affiliates for three reasons:

1) It encourages bookmark and return behaviour (within the cookie period)

2) It makes pressies4princesses more sticky which encourages your visitors to return

3) being able to share/discuss encourages conversion

We anticipate this being the start of bigger things on the web 2.0 front.
